What is RAMS

What does RAMS stand for?

RAMS stands for Risk Assessment and Method Statement. A Risk Assessment identifies the hazards on your job and the controls you will put in place. A Method Statement describes how the work will be carried out safely, step by step.

Principal contractors typically require both documents before allowing a subcontractor to start work on site.

Do I need a RAMS document by law?

If your job falls under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), you have a legal duty to manage health and safety risks on site. A risk assessment is required under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 for any employer or self-employed person working in construction.

In practice, your principal contractor will require a completed RAMS document before you begin work — without it, you will not get on site.

What is a method statement, and do I need one?

A method statement describes exactly how a task will be carried out, in sequence — including the roles and responsibilities of each member of the team. It accompanies the risk assessment to give your principal contractor confidence that the work is properly planned.

Some PCs require a method statement for all subcontractors; others only require one for higher-risk activities. If you are unsure, check with your PC before ordering — or contact us and we will advise.

The process

How quickly can I receive my RAMS document?

We deliver within 2 business days of payment. Once you submit the triage form, we confirm your quote within 1 hour. After you pay, the clock starts — your document lands in your inbox within 2 business days.

What information do I need to provide?

You will complete our triage form — it takes around 60 seconds. We ask about the type of work, site location, number of workers, specific activities, any known hazards, and your principal contractor's requirements.

The more detail you provide, the more accurate your document will be. If we need anything else, we will contact you directly before starting work.

How do I get started?

Submit our triage form — it takes 60 seconds. We review your submission and confirm your quote within 1 hour. Once you are happy with the quote, we send a payment link and get started. Your document is delivered within 2 business days of payment.

Documents

Who reviews and signs off the documents?

Every document is reviewed and signed off by a qualified, experienced safety professional. You are not receiving a template or generic output. A real professional checks your document against the specific activities, hazards, and controls described in your intake form.

What qualifications does your safety professional hold?

Our safety professional holds a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering and CertIOSH — the Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health awarded by IOSH (the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health). They have direct hands-on experience in UK construction and groundworks.

Will my principal contractor accept the document?

That is the whole point. Documents are produced to the standard expected by principal contractors on UK construction sites — not boilerplate, not a generic template. A real document built for your specific job.

If your PC rejects a document we have produced for reasons within our original scope, we will fix it at no extra charge.

What format will I receive my document in?

Documents are delivered as PDF, ready to submit to your principal contractor. If you need an editable version — for example, to add your own company details — let us know when you order and we will discuss options.

Can I make revisions after receiving my document?

One round of revisions is included in the price, provided the revision is within the original scope of work. Revisions outside the original scope — for example, if the activities on site change after delivery — may be charged separately.

Services

What types of construction work do you cover?

We cover a wide range of trades and construction activities, including groundworks, drainage, excavation, civil engineering, demolition, brickwork, roofing, joinery, plumbing, electrical work, painting and decorating, and more.

If you are unsure whether we cover your specific activity, contact us before ordering.

What is the difference between a Simple and Detailed Risk Assessment?

Our Simple Risk Assessment (from £195) is for 1–5 person jobs — groundworkers, drainage crews, and sole traders carrying out straightforward activities. It is the most common document requested by principal contractors.

Our Detailed Risk Assessment (from £395) is for larger crews or specialist activities. It includes competency requirements, detailed legislation references, and a principal contractor interface section.

Do you work with sole traders?

Yes. Sole traders are some of our most common clients. If you are a one-person groundworks or drainage contractor working for a principal contractor, a risk assessment is typically required before you start. We produce documents specifically suited to sole-trader operations — no inflated crew sizes, no unnecessary complexity.

Do you produce RAMS for domestic or private work?

If your work is entirely domestic and CDM domestic client exemptions apply, a formal RAMS document may not be legally required. However, many domestic subcontractors use risk assessments as a matter of good practice and insurance compliance.

We can produce documents for domestic work — contact us to discuss your situation.

My document was rejected — can you fix it?

Yes. Our Rejection Rescue service (from £445) is specifically for this situation. Send us your rejected document and the rejection notes from your PC. We will fix it, sign it off, and return it to you fast.

I already have a RAMS document — can you review and improve it?

Yes. Our Review & Fix service (from £245) covers exactly this. Send us your existing document and we will correct it, bring it up to the required standard, sign it off, and return it ready for submission.
